AUDITION: Opera Singers/Actors (x7), HighTime - WEST MIDLANDS
« on: January 20, 2015, 12:50:03 pm »
HighTime are seeking talented and enthusiastic opera singer-actors who are comfortable working in a workshop-style rehearsal for the following roles in their forthcoming production of Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel:
•Hansel (Mezzo-Soprano)
•Gretel (Soprano)
•Mother (Mezzo-Soprano)
•Father (Baritone)
•Sandman (Soprano/Mezzo-Soprano, Hansel/Gretel cover)
•Dew Fairy (Soprano/Mezzo-Soprano, Hansel/Gretel cover)
•Ringmaster (Witch, Tenor)

Frightened and alone, Hansel and Gretel scavenge for food on the mean city streets. The music of the circus announces the arrival of its enigmatic ringmaster and his wagon of treats and tricks - which holds secrets few could dare to imagine.

This reimagining of Humperdinck’s masterpiece in a fresh English translation is produced in association with the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry - one of the most dynamic producing theatres in the UK.  Production rehearsals will take place in London, the show opens as a new professional production at the Belgrade in W/C 4th May 2015 and with an option to tour thereafter.  Auditions will take place in London on the 7th/8th/15thFebruary 2015.  The project is fee-paying and accommodation will be sourced in Coventry throughout production week.

HighTime is fuelled by the desire to develop opera for a diverse modern audience which:
•creates opera where equal emphasis is placed on musical and dramatic excellence
•employs cross-genre artists to create aesthetic excitement
•translates into English, allowing us to interrogate the works we bring to life
•serves as broad an audience community as possible, to ensure that anyone who wants to can have access to exceptional opera
•works with young people to engage a new generation of opera-lovers

Interested singers should send a CV and brief statement (of around 100-200 words) about why you would like to be involved and how your skills will contribute to the production to team@hightime.org.uk
