Job Listings / Artist, National Museum of the Royal Navy - PORTSMOUTH
« Last post by Showspace Admin on January 20, 2015, 12:53:37 pm »
The National Museum of the Royal Navy requires a dynamic Willow/withy artist or sculpture for an exciting schools based project for the ‘Commemorating Gallipoli- HMS M.33 project’.

HMS M.33 is a unique survivor.  Launched in May 1915 she is the sole remaining British veteran of that year’s bloody Gallipoli Campaign. Only three British warships from the First World War still exist and HMS M.33 will be the only one open to the public in 2015.

The National Museum of the Royal Navy (NMRN) and Hampshire County Council (HCC) have worked as partners to develop the £2.4m project to conserve, restore and interpret M.33  to the public in time for her centenary.

The ship sits in No.1 Dock alongside HMS Victory in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, and new interpretation and activities will bring alive HMS M.33’s history, the stories of the men who served on board, and the bloody history of the Gallipoli Campaign. HMS M.33’s part in a Campaign, which claimed 100,000 lives of personnel from all round the world, means the ship will be a focus for national commemorations when she opens in August 2015.

You will work with 6 different schools in Portsmouth and the surrounding areas to create sculptural recreations of the fleet at Gallipoli, the resulting pieces will play a major part in our opening event in August 2015.

This is an amazing opportunity to work with a prestigious organisation whose goals are to promote the traditions and public understanding of the Royal Navy and its constituent branches, past, present and future.

Project location: Portsmouth, Hampshire UK

Project length: 26 days between March- May 2015

Artist rate: tbc

Job Listings / CALL FOR ARTISTS, The New Immortals - SOUTH EAST
« Last post by Showspace Admin on January 20, 2015, 12:52:11 pm »
Proposals or submissions of work are invited for a curated exhibition, The New Immortals, to take place in 2016. The New Immortals exhibition will begin at Phoenix Brighton, and, subject to funding and partnerships, potentially tour to other UK venues. Artists are invited to submit work and/or expressions of interest for inclusion in the exhibition. Exhibition/commission fee/expenses available subject to a successful funding bid. DOWNLOAD A FULL BRIEF AT http://thenewimmortals.net/2015/01/15/call-for-artists/

Deadline 5pm Monday 16th February

To submit work for consideration or to make a proposal, please complete The New Immortals submission form at https://thenewimmortals.wufoo.com/forms/zipb0rh0wg5744/

INFORMATION FOR ARTISTS: The New Immortals is a research project exploring man’s quest for immortality, from the historic search for eternal life through spirituality, magic and medicine, to the modern miracles of contemporary biomedical science. We live in an age where scientists can create, manipulate, alter and sustain life to an extent once unimaginable, so could there be a time when indefinite lifespan might

A Gallup poll discovered that nearly 45% of people wanted to live to be 100; but what about a life of 200 years? Or 500? Or 1000? Assuming that science and medicine could “stretch” our middle years to give us a reasonably healthy long life, how would we feel about that? And what difference would super-longevity make to us as individuals and as a society? With life expectancy already almost double what it was 200 years ago, where will it all end?

Bioethicist and philosopher, Professor John Harris says, “…scientific advances could lead to significantly extended life-spans… The development of these technologies may be far in the future, but the moral and social issues raised by them should be discussed now… Scanning future horizons will enable us to choose and prepare for the futures that we want, or arm us against futures that, while undesired, we cannot prevent.”

The New Immortals exhibition will aim to open up some of these issues for further discussion and will be accompanied by a programme of events, discussions and talks.

Freshold Theatre in partnership with Black Country Touring is looking for a confident and creative musician to write a bespoke piece of music.

The Commission

The finished piece will be featured as part of The Recollection Chair - a new interactive art installation designed by Freshold Theatre. We are looking for a musician to create the underscore for a spoken word story about the life of 1930s Hollywood actress, Madeleine Carroll.

Artistic freedom is given to the musician within the guidelines that the music enhances the telling of the story, is completely original (your own) and uses a single instrument (such as a guitar, piano, harp). Please note, if you are chosen to create the music it needs to be recorded and shared as an audio file (prerably an AIF). You will not be required to write sheet music.

The fee for this commission is £300-£350

If you are interested please send an email to hannah@fresholdtheatre.co.uk stating who you are and why you would like to take on the commission along with any sound files, link and/or videos that can give us an idea of the kind of music you make and the instruments you play.

A small selection of musicians will be invited to an informal meeting with the writer and the installation designer on Tuesday 27th Jan and the selected musician will be informed and given the audio story to work with by the Monday 3rd Feb, to be completed by the 17th Feb 2015.

Deadline for applications: Wednesday 21st Feb 2015 - 5:00pm

We look forward to hearing from you!
