Fashion Show/Outreach Community Project

Backlit (an independent gallery and artist studios) wishes to commission a Freelance Artist Educator/Facilitator to develop and deliver a community outreach project using fashion to discover, learn, and interpret the history of the textile industry in Nottingham with a focus on the Victorian textile manufacturer Samuel Morley.

Backlit website:

Freelance contract: Fixed fee of £1,400 (8 days @ £175 per day), to cover planning, delivery and evaluation.

Timescale:  Work to be delivered between March and September 2015

Location: Nottingham City


To lead an eight-week fashion project working in collaboration with communities from the St Ann’s area of Nottingham and present a fashion show as a way of introducing people to the history of Samuel Morley and his relevance to Nottingham.

To incorporate the use of related archival material and interpretation, to enhance participants understanding of the relevance of Samuel Morley’s legacy.

To provide a plan for each session or sessions.

To liaise with, and report to the Learning Curator at Backlit.

To contribute to the evaluation of the final report for the outreach project.
